The first of its kind in York Region, Yellow Brick House opens minds to what it means to put yourself in her shoes
RICHMOND HILL, Ontario – Yellow Brick House is excited to announce Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® set to take place on Sunday, November 5th, 2017 at Upper Canada Mall in Newmarket, ON.
The first of its kind in York Region, families and corporate teams in our community will walk a mile in high-heeled shoes, flats or flip-flops to break stereotypes, open minds and illustrate the challenges that women face every day.
“By walking a mile in her shoes, you are showing all abused women and children that you truly care and that they are not alone in their journey,” said Lorris Herenda, Executive Director of Yellow Brick House. “That is what our great community does.”
With one in four women in York Region experiencing abuse, community support is vital in ensuring women and children find the safety and support needed to rebuild their lives. Your support drastically changes the lives of the over 5,000 women and children that walk through our doors.
Last year, at a critical time when support and safety were needed the most, 280 women and 295 children in our community fleeing violence could not access a shelter bed. Yellow Brick House Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® aims to raise $40,000 to provide women and children in York Region with a safe place in an emergency shelter.
