Councillor Jim Karygiannis:Giving businesses a break

Posted in York Region News

Good afternoon all,Giving businesses a break is just pushing the unavoidable only by two months.

I have received many calls from my ward this morning from businesses expressing the unavoidable that we are pushing back payments by two months and the fear that they might have to declare bankruptcy.

They expressed that they do not have enough money to feed their families and never mind rents and taxes.

What they requested is for a two month municipal tax reprieve “Forgiveness” or as long as the COVID-19 pandemic lasts.

We should forgive municipal taxes the period that COVID-19 exists for now and then in the future when businesses get back on their feet either increase the taxes in the following year of look at methods to recuperate the monies.

Just a suggestion that we should give immediate consideration.

 Respectfully

Regards,

Jim Karygiannis,

Councillor, Ward 22 Scarborough-Agincourt
