Age-Friendly Community
Richmond Hill is taking steps toward becoming an Age-Friendly Community. This type of community allows people of all ages to participate in activities that keep everyone healthy and included in community life.
As the senior population continues to grow, it is more important than ever to support the health and wellbeing of older Canadians. In Canada, older adults represent the country's fastest growing age group – a trend that is expected to continue for many years to come across our nation and here at home in Richmond Hill.

The City of Richmond Hill is updating its Transportation Master Plan to establish a future vision for all travel modes within the City to the year 2051. The plan will guide the future of the City's road, walking and cycling networks, including off-road trails, and update transportation and mobility policy to support how people get around the City.

0 John Birchall Road planning application update
At the December 1, 2021 Council Public meeting, many residents, including Council, strongly opposed the proposed application for many valid reasons namely height, density, compatibility, traffic congestion, and safety concerns.
On June 28, 2022, the applicant appealed this application to the Ontario Land Tribunal (in other words, brought us to “court”) and a 12-day hearing has been scheduled starting October 17, 2023.
To date, the applicant has not yet filed a revised proposal to the City responding to all the concerns and comments raised by Council, internal departments, external agencies, or members of public. In light of the scheduled October hearing, this matter will appear on the February 8 Council Meeting agenda asking Council to direct staff to appear at the hearing to continue to fight against the subject application.
Recommendations:
1. Staff to appear at the Ontario Land Tribunal to support Council’s position.
2. Staff to continue discussions with the applicant with the aim to find common ground for the differences and work towards a resolution that represents good planning on the subject land.
This is more of a housekeeping matter of the appeal process. I am confident that Council will unanimously support the staff recommendations.
If you have any concerns or questions, please contact me. I have attached the staff report for February 8 Council Meeting for your information - https://pub-richmondhill.
