Sheppard East Subway Extension to be Built by a Re-Elected PC Government
Today in Scarborough, PC Party Leader Doug Ford announced, “A re-elected PC government will speed up construction on the Sheppard East Subway Extension…. This goes all the way back to my brother Rob’s days, to get shovels in the ground connecting the TTC's line four with the Scarborough Subway Extension a year sooner than planned.
Ford praised the dedication and advocacy of Aris Babikian on behalf of the residents of Scarborough-Agincourt, stating, "Thank you Aris for promoting that [the subway extension] all the time.”
In addition to the Sheppard Subway Line announcement, Ford committed to rebuilding and upgrading the eastbound lanes of Highway 401 from Victoria Park to Avenue Road to Neilson Road, with an added lane at the Kennedy Road interchange. “Lastly, a re-elected PC government will rebuild and upgrade Highway 401's eastbound express lanes from Avenue Road to Warden Avenue,” he added.
PC Candidate Aris Babikian expressed his gratitude: “On behalf of the residents of Scarborough-Agincourt, I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to Doug Ford for making this dream, a reality. The commitment to build the Sheppard East Subway Extension is a historic milestone for our residents and Scarborough.” He continued, “I would also like to thank our community associations, especially the Agincourt Village Community Association (AVCA), who never gave up on this dream and worked hand in hand with me to deliver on the promise I made when I was elected.”
Babikian is thrilled with this announcement, as it delivers on three core promises he made to the residents of Scarborough-Agincourt in 2018. In addition to the new extension at the Birchmount Hospital site, with a $1 billion allocation for the Bridletowne Community and Health Hub, and the construction of the Scarborough Subway Line, the Sheppard East Extension announcement is the third major infrastructure project delivered to the residents of Scarborough-Agincourt in the last seven years. By contrast, the former Liberal government ignored the needs of our residents for 15 years and took us for granted.
Here we are – promise made, promise kept!
