Professor of History at York - Bernard Luk passed away at Sunnybrook Hospital
Message from Jack Hang-tat Leong, Ph.D. | Director, Richard Charles Lee Canada-Hong Kong Library
It is with my great sadness to pass on the news that our friend and library advisor, Professor Bernard Luk, passed away at Sunnybrook Hospital on March 23 after suffering from a stroke.
A professor of History at York, and long-standing supporter of the Library, Professor Luk earned his BA in History from the Chinese University of Hong Kong; and his PhD in History from Indiana University. He taught in Faculty of Education, Chinese University of Hong Kong, for a dozen years. After immigrating to Canada, he had been teaching in the History Department, York University, since 1991. He was Vice-President of Hong Kong Institute of Education, 2003-2007. He was a Director of the Canada-Hong Kong Project, which provided a strong foundation for the establishment of the Richard Charles Lee Canada-Hong Kong Library. Professor Luk constantly donated articles, journals and resources on Hong Kong studies for our collection. He had chaired, moderated and presented in many seminars, symposiums and conferences in the library. He will be deeply missed.
Bernard is survived by his wife Fatima Lee, and two sons.
Regards,
Jack Hang-tat Leong, Ph.D. | Director, Richard Charles Lee Canada-Hong Kong Library
