Statement by Jim Karygiannis
on the occasions of Passover, Easter, South Asian New Years and the start of Ramadan
This month, people around the world will be observing Passover, Easter, Eastern Orthodox Easter, the start of Ramadan and various South and South East Asian New Years - Songkran (Thai New Year), Vaisakhi (Sikh New Year), Polia Baisakh (Bengali New Year), Songkran (Thai New Year),aisakhi (Sikh New Year), Polia Baisakh (Bengali New Year), Puthandu (Tamil New Year), Cambodian New Year and many more.
This is normally an opportunity to gather with family and friends to worship and celebrate. Unfortunately, COVID-19 has made normal activities impossible.
During these difficult times we must look after spiritual, emotional and mental well-being of each other. I encourage you to connect with loved ones, friends and vulnerable members of the community online or by phone. Many places of worship are hosting services online and implementing innovative ways to connect their communities, while staying physically apart. Check the website of your place of worship for information about online services and supports.
Special thanks go out to our religious leaders as they provide leadership and look after our religious needs at these difficult times.
