Catholic Teachers Ratify Agreement with Government
We would like to congratulate OECTA and OCSTA for the ratification of the 2019-22 central agreement, the first deal reached with Ontario teachers. Our government will continue to advance efforts that improve and modernize Ontario’s education system and serve the needs of students and their families, while being fiscally responsible. Our aim is to ensure our system is responsive and adaptive to the challenges on the horizon, and we have full confidence that educators will rise to the challenge and work hard to ensure students learn and succeed.
Like our deals with the Education Workers’ Alliance of Ontario (EWAO) and the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), our primary objective was to provide predictability and certainty to parents, students and educators alike. The time is now for the outstanding deals - parents deserve predictability
Allowing Cannabis Retailers To Offer Curbside Delivery And Pick-Up:
The Ontario government has passed an Emergency Order allowing authorized cannabis retail stores to provide curbside pick-up and delivery services. This allows cannabis retailers to have the same opportunities as other non-essential businesses that are permitted to operate remotely if they can provide goods for pickup and delivery. Ensuring that cannabis stores can continue to provide people with safe, convenient access to legal cannabis is the best way to help Ontario continue its fight against the illegal market.
This temporary measure will help Ontario continue its fight against the illicit market by continuing to provide consumers with access to legal recreational cannabis and allowing existing cannabis stores to operate safely through physical distancing. Retailers will continue to be required to have measures in place to protect the health and safety of Ontarians, including youth, and delivery and curbside pick-up must be done by cannabis store licence holders and/or staff who have taken the CannSell training program.
Grocery Stores and Other Essential Services Remaining Open Over The Long Weekend:
Ensuring that essential services function to the full extent possible for Ontario families is a critical goal for our government, but we must balance that goal with the overriding priority of ensuring social distancing in these difficult times. Traditional Easter long weekend store hours will continue, we encourage people to complete their shopping reasonably and responsibly and to remember the two golden words: social distancing. Our government wants to thank all of the heroes who work everyday to ensure people have access to the groceries and essential services they need. We wish these workers and all Ontarians a Happy Easter long weekend and some much-deserved rest and relaxation.
