COVID-19 cases reported in Toronto
• 1,891 current cases, with 118 new cases
• 177 hospitalized with 79 in ICU
• 77 deaths
• 103 recoveries

City of Toronto
• The City is exploring options to respond to the increased need for accessible toilets, handwashing stations and support services for homeless and other vulnerable populations
O Beginning next week, in partnership with Toronto Public Health, Seniors Services and Long-Term Care will be providing regular home-specific updates, including case counts related to COVID-19
O Efforts continue to promote the importance of staying home and physical distancing. Renewed physical distancing signage has been created and will be put up in City parks beginning early next week
• Compliance efforts continue to be enforced in:
O Parks and public squares (a targeted blitz of Toronto parks is taking place this weekend)
O Closure of non-essential businesses
O Municipal and provincial public health measures
Province of Ontario
• Announced the expanded and proactive testing of several priority groups including:
O hospital inpatients, long-term care and retirement home, healthcare workers/caregivers and first responders (paramedics, police and firefighters), Indigenous and remote/isolated/rural communities and congregate living facilities (group homes, prisons and shelters); as well as specific vulnerable populations including:
1. Chemotherapy, hemodialysis and transplant patients, pregnant persons, newborns and cross border agents.
• Testing of the general public is ongoing at the Province‘s 100 testing centres
• Anyone exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms (difficulty breathing, fever, cough, fatigue, headache, muscle ache, sore throat and runny nose) can and will be tested at the recommendation of their physician or at the recommendation of the physician at a COVID-19 assessment centre
• Province‘s list of COVID-19 symptoms will be updated to include:
O Hoarse voice, difficulty swallowing, loss of sense of smell or taste, diarrhea and nausea and vomiting; and,
O For seniors – chills, delirium (no other obvious causes), falls, acute functional decline, increased heart rate, decreased blood pressure
• The Province will complete up to 8,000 tests per day by April 15 and 16,000 per day by May 6
• The Premier stressed the importance staying home for all Ontarians and staying 2 metres apart when making essential trips
Government of Canada
• The Prime Minister gave holiday greetings to Canadians of various religions and spoke to children, asking them to share pictures in their windows in support of our health care workers
• He also encouraged Canadians to apply for the Canadian Emergency Response Benefit and the Canada Emergency Business Account offering loans to small businesses
• the Prime Minister announced that tomorrow the House of Commons will meet to pass the largest economic measures, including the wage subsidy bill, undertaken in Canada since World War II
O Prime Minister announced that he will address Canadians from the House of Commons and will not provide a briefing on Sunday and Monday
• Shared stories of Canadian businesses stepping up to do their part, including retooling to create needed products in country
• Canada part of the discussion at G20 energy meetings and is advocating for Canadian interests amidst OPEC production concerns
• Discussions and decisions regarding the appointment of a Bank of Canada Governor are ongoing
• Canada‘s Emergencies Act would only be enacted if Provincial and Federal measures are not effective, hope to never enact
Government of Canada officials‘ Briefing:
• Canada currently has 21,243 confirmed cases of COVID-19, and 531 deaths
• Many deaths occurring in long-term care homes
• To date, more than 383,000 tests have been administered across the country
• Praised Canadians for adhering to the public health guidelines laid out by the government as the public‘s cooperation with public health measures has kept Canada’s health system from being overwhelmed
• A 「staycation for the nation」continues to be encouraged for Canadians this holiday weekend
