Councillor Castro Liu - Community Update - In-Person Voting Starts today!
Dear Ward 3 Residents,
Every election is determined by the people who show up. Exercise your rights to vote!
Municipal Elections 2022: In-Person Voting starts Today.
Vote Centres Open October 22 to 24; Online Voting Also Available
Richmond Hill’s 12 Vote Centres open today for in-person voting in the 2022 Municipal Elections. Eligible voters can still choose the fast, convenient and secure option of voting online until 8 p.m. on October 24 rather than voting in person.
In-person voting is available:
- Saturday, October 22, 2022 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Sunday, October 23, 2022 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Monday, October 24, 2022 (Voting Day) from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Vote Centres in Ward 3:
- Richmond Green Sports Centre, 1300 Elgin Mills Road East
- Bayview Hill Community Centre, 114 Spadina Road
Voters can choose to vote at any one of the 12 Vote Centres. Locations are listed on Voter Information Packages (VIP) and on the website at RichmondHill.ca/RHVotes. Voters should bring their VIP and will need to show identification with their name and address. Your VIP is not a valid form of identification. At each Vote Centre, you can choose to vote with a paper ballot or at an internet voting terminal.
Voting Day and Diwali
Municipal elections occur every four years in Ontario on a date set by the province. This year, the October 24 elections are on the first day of Diwali, a major religious festival for many Richmond Hill residents. The variety of voting options provides those celebrating Diwali flexibility to choose a time and method to vote that is convenient for them.
One Person, One Vote – It’s the Law
It is illegal to vote more than once or when not entitled to vote. It is also illegal to vote using another person’s Voter ID and Voting PIN. The offence under the Municipal Elections Act, 1996 carries a maximum fine of $25,000 or up to six months in jail.
If your household received a VIP for a former resident, do not open or forward it. It is illegal to tamper with mail – this includes opening a Voter Information Package other than your own. Mark the envelope “Return to Sender” and drop it in a mailbox.
Voter Eligibility
To be eligible to vote in the Municipal Elections you must be:
- A Canadian citizen;
- At least 18 years of age on or before Voting Day (October 24, 2022);
- A resident, owner or tenant of land in the City of Richmond Hill, or the spouse of such tenant or owner; and
