Wages: Min CAD $13.50/Hr. Max CAD $15.00/Hr.
Main Job Duties:
• Supervision of children
• Responding to pedestrian inquiries and providing information, as required
• Spreading salt/sand mixture around sidewalk and cross walk area during winter months to melt ice and improve traction
• Performing administrative duties (i.e. accident or incident reports)
Working Conditions:
Employee works outdoors at an assigned intersection in all weather conditions (except lightening). He or she may be exposed to heat, humidity, rain, snow, high winds, cold, icy or slippery walking conditions. He or she is also exposed to traffic and pollution from car exhaust, as well as dust from the road. Employee works with minimal supervision within established practices and procedures. From time to time, he or she may have to work with demanding/angry drivers, parents or students.
Physical Demands:
Normal physical demands include:
• Carrying a sign 2 – 5 pounds intermittently, for up to one hour at a time
• Walking and standing throughout entire shift
Employee must be alert and observant to changing traffic conditions and children waiting to cross.
Work Schedule:
Employee works 10 – 15 hours per week.
Please note: The successful candidate will be required to pass a Vulnerable Sector security clearance conducted by the York Regional Police Service before commencement of this position. Additionally, a doctor’s note is required indicating that the candidate is able to carry out the duties based on the physical demands in the working conditions listed on this posting.
Qualifications:
Daily travel allowance of $6.80/day if crossing location is greater than 1.2 km from your residence.
HOURS OF WORK: Up to 15 hours/week
