On May 15, 2020 at 7:00pm, I will be holding a teleconference to offer suggestions to seniors as they navigate COVID-19.
While all of us are dealing with the challenges posed by COVID-19, seniors are also dealing with being in one of the vulnerable categories. This vulnerability means that seniors are taking stricter social distancing measures, which is leading to feelings of loneliness and depression.

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of partnering up with Dr. Lisa Salamon, Emergency Physician at Scarborough Health Network and Chair of District 11 of the Ontario Medical Association and we distributied free 12,000 face masks, 240 bottles of hand sanitizer and 160 face shields to 120 doctors who are practicing in Scarborough-Agincourt.
Hospitals, seniors’ and long term care homes have been given priority for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), leaving doctor’s offices and clinics short.Read more..

City of Toronto
·The City’s community gardens and allotment gardens are open for the 2020 season. Plans for the safe operation of these gardens include COVID-19 public health guidelines. This week, permit holders were notified that their allotment is available. All permit holders must sign the provided permit and declaration forms before they can attend at an allotment garden. Visit the City’s website for more information about allotment and community gardens.
·The Canadian National Exhibition Association (CNEA) announced today, that this year’s CNE will not move forward with its 18-day event slated for August 21 to September 7, 2020 at Exhibition Place.

·The Government of Ontario has extended the State of Emergency in Ontario until June 2nd, 2020.
·Sunday saw the lowest daily number of new cases since March 31, 2020.
·There will be announcements on Thursday about opening workplaces.
·The Provincial Government’s focus will be on re-opening more low-risk workplaces, seasonal businesses and essential services.
·The Government of Ontario has an online survey where people can have their say on how businesses, services and public spaces should re-open at https://www.ontario.ca/page/reopening-ontario-after-covid-19

·The Prime Minister announced new measures to help seniors in Canada.
o Seniors receiving Old Age Security (OAS) will be receiving a one-time payment of $300.
o Seniors receiving the Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS) will receive an extra $200.
·The Federal Government is investing $20 million on the New Horizons for Seniors program. This program funds community projects for seniors. The additional funding is to help with the impact isolation is having on seniors by implementing virtual exercise programs and tablet laptops.
·The Prime Minister acknowledged the tragedies seen in long-term care homes and will be working with provinces to determine a long-lasting solution
·Minister Gould announced a contribution towards the Vaccine Initiative, the Vaccine Alliance, and the Global Polio Eradication Initiative. These organizations work hard to deliver vaccines to the worlds’ most vulnerable. Once the COVID-19 vaccine is ready, such organizes will help get it to the people who need it.
