Dear Residents, Below are the latest updates for the Ward 3 community.
Yard Waste
Yard waste includes leaves, pine cones, fallen fruit, trees, shrub trimmings, pumpkins, clean straw and dried corn stalks. Soil, sod and grass clippings are NOT ACCEPTED.
Yard waste is no longer collected on Mondays. From October 12 to December 3, 2021, yard waste is collected weekly on your regular waste collection day. For more information, check out the Waste Management Calendar.
Collection guidelines
· Yard waste must be placed at the curb after 6 p.m. on the night before your collection day and before 7 a.m. on the day of collection.
· Yard waste must be set out in a large Kraft paper bag (available at most retailers), cardboard box or in a reusable, rigid, open top container, such as a garbage can or bushel basket (max. 125L or 33G), which must be clearly labeled with a yellow yard waste sticker. Yard waste stickers are available for free at Access Richmond Hill (225 East Beaver Creek Road, Ground Floor) and at the Operations Center (1200 Elgin Mills Road East).
· Brush must be tied and bundled with twine (branches/bush may not be longer than 1.2m/4ft in length and no branches may be larger than 10 cm in diameter).
· Each container or bundle must not exceed 18 kg/40lbs.
· If yard waste has not been collected it must be removed from the curb on the collection day.
Richmond Hill Mayoral By-election Call for Candidates
After serving as Mayor of Richmond Hill for 15 years and dedicating more than 35 years to the community, Mayor Dave Barrow announced his retirement on September 14, 2021. Council subsequently voted to proceed with a By-election for the vacant Mayor’s position. City of Richmond Hill will begin accepting nominations for Mayor on October 15, 2021.
Elected by eligible voters, the Mayor will act as chief executive officer of the municipality, preside over Council meetings, represent Richmond Hill at official functions and provide leadership as the head of Council. The By-election will be held on January 24, 2022 and the term will end on November 14, 2022.
Candidate eligibility
To run for office as the Mayor of Richmond Hill, a candidate must be:
· a Canadian citizen
· at least 18 years of age
· a resident of the City of Richmond Hill, or the owner or tenant of land in Richmond Hill (or the spouse of any such owner or tenant of land).
Candidates must comply with all provisions of the Municipal Elections Act, 1996. This includes, but is not limited to, candidates shall not accept any contributions or incur any expenses pertaining to their election campaign until after their nomination is filled with and accepted by the City Clerk. Call for Richmond Hill Committee Members
Are you looking to make a difference in your community? Here is a great opportunity! The City of Richmond Hill is seeking volunteers for three of its committees.
- Council Compensation Review Committee: Responsible for recommending future compensation for elected City officials. The group meets several times through the year, presenting a final report in Spring 2022.
- Richmond Hill Library Board: Helps to determine the mission of the library, setting the policy that governs the library and moves it forward to meet the changing needs of the community. The Board meets eight times a year.
- Heritage Richmond Hill: Advises Council on matters relating to the designation of individual properties and the designation of heritage conservation districts, as outlined in the Ontario Heritage Act. The group meets monthly.

Good news story
York Regional Police have laid multiple charges and have recovered 28 vehicles valued at more than $1.5 million dollars in connection with an ongoing vehicle theft investigation.
Over the past several years there has been an increase in thefts of Lexus and Toyota sport utility vehicles from residential driveways in York Region. The majority of these vehicles have occurred between midnight and 6 a.m.
Officers executed search warrants in Toronto and Peel Region after identifying six suspects.
Upcoming Yonge North Subway Extension virtual Open House

On December 2, 2020, the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing issued a Zoning Order (Ontario Regulation 698/20) under the Planning Act which has the effect of zoning the applicant’s landholdings to facilitate a range of low, medium and high density residential uses, in addition to institutional, commercial and conservation uses.
