Councillor Castro Liu - Storm Clean- up Updat
Dear Ward 3 Residents,
The City continue to receive calls regarding trees and related storm damage. To date, we have received over 700 calls. We anticipate that it will take some time yet to fully assess all the calls and complete a full clean up. Trees remain down across the public realm combined with municipal trees that have fallen onto private property. We appreciate your patients, as we work to address priority calls with available resources. We have additional city and contracted resources scheduled to complement existing resources early next week.
Private trees – branches and debris collection
- Curbside collection: Smaller limbs and branches can be set out for collection on residents’ yard waste collection day. Material should be placed on the boulevard (not the road). Branches, sticks and twigs should be bundled with twine (maximum length 1.2m/4ft and no branches larger than 10 cm in diameter). Residents can refer to the City’s website at RichmondHill.ca/YardWaste and/or the Waste Calendar for full collection guidelines and the schedule.
- Waste depot drop off: Until June 5, larger branches and debris can be dropped off for free at Miller’s Bloomington Yard Waste Depot (1351 Bloomington Road East), Georgina Transfer Station or McCleary Court Community Environmental Centre. Accepted material includes branches (no larger than 30cm in diameter and 1.8m in length), flowers, plants, leaves and shrubs. Residents can visit York.ca/wastedepots for locations and hours.
City Trees on Streets
- All roads and the majority of sidewalks that we are aware of have been cleared and/or the debris has been moved to the side.
- Inspections are ongoing and work is in progress to address damaged and hazardous trees.
- This work will take time and may be done in multiple stages. Brush, logs and standing tree trunks in some cases need to be handled separately because of the availability of equipment and staff.
City Trees in Parks, Trails and Ravines
- Parks – We are systematically inspecting and removing smaller trees from parks. Trees that require work have been secured until staff can return to complete the removals/repair.
- Residents should exercise extreme caution and stay clear of all damaged or downed trees
- Trails and ravines – These areas are being inspected however work to clear blocked pathways and downed trees will take time to complete.
Reporting Damage
All calls can continue to be sent to Access Richmond Hill. We are encouraging residents to report damage to public trees through RichmondHill.ca/Access.
