Big smiles, bigger impact: Tim Hortons bakes up half a million reasons for Markham Stouffville Hospital community to smile
Tim Hortons is bringing more smiles to Markham, Ballantrae, and Stouffville with the return of the iconic Smile Cookie campaign, running from April 28 to May 4. To kickoff the fundraiser, Tim Hortons restaurant owners of Markham and Stouffville were onsite at Oak Valley Health’s Markham Stouffville Hospital (MSH) today for a special unveiling. In recognition of a remarkable $500,000 commitment that Tim Hortons made last year, MSH proudly named a paediatric surgical waiting area in their honour.
Customers can support the campaign by purchasing a Smile Cookie for $2 (plus tax), or a cute and cuddly Smile Cookie four-way reversible plushie (with four different emotions) for $5 (plus tax), $2 of which will go to local charities.
“Every year, Tim Hortons restaurant owners across Canada come together with team members and guests to make an incredible impact in their local communities with the annual Smile Cookie campaign,” says Axel Schwan, President of Tim Hortons. “Generous guests helped us raise nearly $18.8 million last year. We invite all Canadians to join us in our restaurants to support Smile Cookie week. It’s a deliciously easy way to make an impact in your local community and is one of the most feel-good and inspirational times of the year for Tims fans.”
Since its launch in 1996, the Smile Cookie campaign has donated 100 per cent of proceeds to charities across Canada, supporting the communities in which the restaurants operate in. The proceeds from each restaurant in Markham, Ballantrae, and Stouffville will benefit families and children cared for at MSH.
Today, health care’s complex landscape is changing, and MSH’s diverse community is growing. Oak Valley Health remains committed to delivering quality, integrated, patient-centred care for the communities it serves. Because government can’t fund all of the hospital’s essential equipment and ongoing needs, MSH relies on dynamic partnerships, like this one with Tim Hortons, to adopt new technology, improve access, and streamline services — ultimately made possible by the generous support of the community.
“The Smile Cookie campaign supports the growing families in our community who rely on MSH for exceptional care,” says Suzette Strong, CEO, MSH Foundation. “It helps fund critical equipment and technology, like anaesthesia machines and surgical booms — investments that are essential in keeping up with our growing community and evolving health care needs.”
