Councillor Amanda Yeung Collucci’s Official Statement against Racist Video Game

As City of Markham Councillor for Ward 6, I call for a halt in the distribution of a blatantly racist video “Dirty Chinese Restaurant” that was created by a local company in Markham.

The content is nothing short of demeaning, offensive and potentially destructive toward the Chinese community. These types of offensive and ignorant comments have no place in society and we must continue to work to abolish intolerance. The truth of the matter is that Chinese-Canadians have made a significant contribution to our riding, city, province and country as a whole. The putrid content in this video game is based on severe falsehoods and fabrications about Chinese businesses and the community. I am confident that the truth will always prevail and falsehoods such as these will perish. We must continue to work together as the vibrant and diverse community that we are to stand up against discrimination, intolerance and racism.

   近日，整個華人社區群情激憤，強烈譴責萬錦市的某遊戲開發公司，該公司開發的名為“Dirty Chinese Restaurant” 這款遊戲視頻對華人餐館的抹黑和侮辱之能事已令人無法直視，嚴重涉嫌種族歧視！

   我作為萬錦市的議員，特別是華人議員也對此感到極大的震驚和強烈的譴責！我們華人社區在萬錦市的文化經濟的發展和繁榮中功不可沒！我們的華人餐館在萬錦市口碑極好，中餐館隨處可見，興旺的生意讓其他族裔的同行由衷欽佩！這些餐館的員工辛勤付出，精湛的廚藝、整潔而漂亮的餐廳正是我們華人的驕傲！

   反對任何種族歧視，尊重多元文化是我們加拿大人的價值觀，也是我們自由黨力推奉行的原則！無論是什麼族裔、什麼文化、什麼宗教都應該得到平等的對待和受到法律的保護！哪怕是種族歧視的倪端都要給予奮力反撲，絕不能給它有滋生，散布、發展的溫床！絕不能讓種族歧視變成常態化！

   所以我將密切關注並積極推動阻止這個遊戲的發布！並且會要求市政府嚴肅追究這款遊戲開發的責任到底！給市民們一個交代，給華人社團一個交代，給所有的華人餐館一個交代！

   今天，我比任何時候都更強烈、更迫切地感到：我們華人，我們萬錦市全體市民，應該團結起來，反對任何形式的種族歧視！
