Richmond Hill Takes Further Action to Protect Residents and Staff
The City of Richmond Hill is stepping up measures to help stop the spread of COVID-19 in the community. Following the Ontario government’s announcement extending public school closures, effective immediately, the City has:
• Cancelled all spring recreation and culture programs
• Cancelled or postponed all performances and facility bookings at the Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts up to and including April 30
• Cancelled or postponed all City-run events through May
Those impacted by cancelled programs will be contacted directly. All user fees charged will be fully refunded.
The City is also advising residents not to use playgrounds, the skate park and other park equipment as they are not sanitized. While parks, trails and natural areas remain open, residents are reminded to follow health guidelines which are posted on signage at all local parks and encouraged to consider activities that allow physical distancing, such as walking, biking and hiking. By-law enforcement officers will be monitoring parks to reinforce these guidelines.
All City facilities remain closed to the public. Non-essential staff are equipped to work remotely from home. The City continues to deliver essential services including:
• Fire and emergency services
• Providing safe drinking water
• Road maintenance
• Waste and recycling collection
Essential services staff are modifying their work practices wherever possible and following guidance from York Region’s Medical Officer of Health to maintain a safe work environment. This includes allowing space for physical distancing, reducing the number of essential staff on shift, providing appropriate personal protective equipment and increasing cleaning of workspaces and common areas.
