WushuCanada is actively preparing for the World University Games and the Canadian National Wushu Team Championships.
WushuCanada has appointed WushuOntario to host the 2022 National Wushu Team Championships in Thunder Bay, Ontario from July 28 to 31, 2022 and will also prepare for The World University Games in Chengdu June 27 to 30, 2022.
Sunny Tang, president of the WushuCanada said that the registration for the 2022 National Wushu Team Championships will begin on the 28th of July, 2022. The opening ceremony will be on the evening of July 29th. The two-day competition will be held on the 30th and 31st. Participants will leave the venue on August 1st. The 2022 Canadian National Wushu Team will be selected from the results from this Championships.
In addition, WushuCanada will organize a team to participate in the World University Games to be held in Chengdu from June 27 to 30, 2022. According to Sunny Tang, to qualify for the World University Games, an athlete must hold a Canadian passport, a certificate of enrollment issued by the university, provide past martial arts competition results, registered competition events, etc., and be nominated by his/her coach before December 31, 2021 by emailing to the WushuCanada Secretariat for preliminary selection. The list of qualified athletes will be announced in February 2022.
The 31st Summer Universiade will be the third time for China to host the World University Games; 2001 in Beijing, 2011 in Shenzhen and 2022 in Chengdu. It will also be the first time for the western region of China to host international multi-sports games. More than 10,000 athletes and officials from about 170 countries and regions will participate.
In December 2018, the China General Sports Association, Chengdu and the International University Sports Federation signed an agreement for the right to host the 2021 World University Summer Games. Since then, Chengdu established a preparatory committee for hosting the Universiade with the mayor as its director and initiated the follow-up bidding and preparatory work. On March 1, 2019, the three parties formally signed the Chengdu 2021 Universiade hosting contract at the ISU Executive Committee meeting in Russia.
On April 29, 2019, the 31st Universiade collected slogans, emblems, and mascots from international professional design institutions, independent designers, studios, teachers and students at major colleges and universities, design enthusiasts, etc. These proposed design items were uploaded through the official website from individuals, organizations or groups. The final selected slogan, emblem, and mascot were officially announced in August 2019.
On January 16, 2020, a press conference for the creative advertising copyright of the opening and closing ceremony of the 31st Summer Universiade in 2021 was held in Chengdu, Sichuan Province. On August 18, 2020, the Chengdu Universiade Organizing Committee announced the one-year countdown of the 31st Summer Universiade in the Chengdu Radio and Television Studio. On April 2, 2021, the International University Sports Federation announced that due to the global epidemic situation, international travel restrictions and other factors, the 31st Summer Universiade originally scheduled to be held in Chengdu, Sichuan Province in August 2021 would be postponed to 2022.
The Chengdu Preparatory Committee for the 31st Universiade has determined the layout of 51 venues and passed the evaluation by the International University Sports Federation. Among them, Dong'an Lake Sports Center has been identified as the main stadium of the Universiade, which will undertake the opening and closing ceremonies of the Universiade, as well as swimming and gymnastics competitions. The Dong'an Lake Sports Center, including an integrated sports field and gymnasium, swimming and diving hall, and a comprehensive small ball arena, was completed in April 2021, and tests related to the Universiade were launched.
