Mr. Tony Luk, the President of Canada China Overseas Exchange Association say that, Water Cube Cup Chinese Songs Singing Contest is a party held on the evening of August 8 every year, which marks the opening of the 2008 Beijing Olympics, to present awards to the winners of the annual "Water Cube Cup" Overseas Chinese youth Singing Contest. It is the best time to recall the Beijing Olympics and to reciprocate the 350,000 compatriots from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan and overseas Chinese, who voluntarily donated to the construction of the epic Olympic venue – Water Cube.
The "Water Cube Cup" singing contest is sponsored by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council, the Beijing Municipal Government and the All-China Youth Federation and organized by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the Beijing Municipal Government, TV Beijing (TVB) and the Beijing Municipal State Assets Management Co. Ltd. (starting from 2014), the Beijing National Swimming Center Co. Ltd. and the Beijing Performing Art Co. Ltd.
With "Gathering at Water Cube, Sing Out Loud the Sentiments of the Chinese Nation" as the theme, the 2013 and 2014 sessions gave a full expression of the affections of Chinese living overseas for the Chinese nation. The young participants used their beautiful and pure voices to sing out loud their youthful vigor and vitality and the outcome of their learning Chinese. They also expressed their love for the Chinese culture and the unremitting endeavor to promote cultural exchanges between China and other countries.
The activity is designed to avail of this platform to make every participant a "seed" for spreading Chinese culture, telling Chinese stories and disseminate positive energy of China. It is the hope that more and more overseas young people would join the contest and sing out loud and share the "China Dream".
