Mary Ng, Member of Parliament for Markham - Thornhill, on behalf of the Honourable Amarjeet Sohi, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities, the Honourable Michael Chan, Ontario Minister of International Trade and Member of Provincial Parliament for Markham - Unionville, on behalf of The Honralble Bob Chiarelli, Ontario Minister of Infrastructure, and Mayor Frank Scarpitti of the City of Markham, announced that eight projects in Markham will receive funding under the Government of Canada's Clean Water and Wastewater Fund (CWWF).
Thanks to this total of $ 10.6 million in Federal and Provincial investments, residents of Markham will benefit from refined stormwater and water infrastructure. Projects like Markham's Cast Iron Watermain Rehabilitation and West Thornhill Flood Control Program will help businesses and residents alike. To prevent our waterways clean and keep our communities healthy and livable.
In addition to these projects, over $ 24 million in Federal and Saving for 6 Regional Municipality of York water and wastewater projects will direclty benefit the City of Markham.
For the eight projects announced, the federal government is funding up to 50 per cent of project costs - $ 23 million. The county government is provided up to 25 per cent- $ 11.6 million and the City of Markham and the Regional Municipality of York will contribute Any remaining cost
This investment is part of an agreement between Canada and Ontario for the Clean Water and Wastewater Fund.
