Markham Stouffville Hospital Foundation has 87,000 reasons to smile, thanks to the 2024 Tim Hortons Smile Cookie campaign
MARKHAM, ON (May 23, 2024) – Today, Tim Hortons Markham and Stouffville restaurant owners unveiled the total proceeds of this year’s Smile Cookie campaign. An incredible $87,832.03 was raised for Oak Valley Health’s Markham Stouffville Hospital (MSH).
From April 29 to May 5, customers purchased Smile Cookies ($1.50 plus tax each) and Smile Cookie products with 100 per cent of the proceeds benefiting local charities across Canada. The Smile Cookie program started in 1996 and over 20 years later, proceeds from each Smile Cookie are still donated to charities from coast-to-coast-to-coast, supporting the communities in which the restaurants operate. The funds raised from participating restaurants in Markham and Stouffville benefit families and children cared for at MSH.
Two-year-old Brooks von Engelbrechten, accompanied by his parents Tyler and Marina, joined the announcement to share their appreciation to the Tim Hortons Markham and Stouffville restaurant owners and staff.
“Brooks had recently undergone ear tube surgery at the hospital and his entire health care team went above and beyond to ensure he was well cared for, while providing us first-time parents the compassion we needed to put us at ease,” shares Tyler. “Knowing that the hospital relies on generous community support and seeing that companies like Tim Hortons are committed to giving back so that families like ours can access exceptional care in our community really means so much.”
Today, health care’s complex landscape is changing, along with our growing, diverse community. With a renewed focus on the MSH of tomorrow, our community hospital continues to deliver integrated care for healthier communities. Through dynamic partnerships and collaborations coupled with the purposeful adoption of technology, MSH will increase access and streamline services – made possible by community support. Government funding can’t cover the cost of all critical life-saving equipment and top priority needs. Generous donor support is essential to the exceptional care that MSH patients receive close to home.
Last month, to kick off the Smile Cookie launch, restaurant owners of Markham and Stouffville gathered at the hospital to announce a $500,000 commitment to the hospital. In recognition of Tim Hortons’ generosity, MSH will proudly name a paediatric surgical waiting room in its honour.
“We are very grateful and proud to be the long-standing beneficiary of the annual Smile Cookie campaign in Markham and Stouffville,” says Allan Bell, Vice President, Community Relations & Corporate Partnerships, MSH Foundation. “Tim Hortons’ commitment to making a difference in the lives of children in our community, and the tremendous support from the restaurant owners and their teams, will ensure we are able to meet the needs of our vibrant, growing community for generations to come.”
