A statement from MPP Steven Del Duca regarding the YRDSB
A statement from MPP Steven Del Duca regarding the YRDSB:
“Today I had the opportunity to once again meet with the Grant family and Shernett Martin of the Vaughan African Canadian Association regarding ongoing concerns relating to equity and inclusivity at the York Region District School Board (YRDSB).
As elected officials, our job is to speak for those that we represent in a manner that is consistent with our broader beliefs and values. The use of any derogatory, racist or discriminatory language is simply unacceptable and should not be tolerated.
As the MPP for Vaughan, it is my belief that York Region School Board Trustee Nancy Elgie should immediately resign her position.
Our government has recently appointed Patrick Case and Sue Herbert to review the governance and performance issues at the YRDSB. Mr. Case and Ms. Herbert will recommend improvements, particularly regarding equity, accountability and transparency, to regain public confidence in our school board. This work is ongoing, and the reviewers are expected to submit a final report with their recommendations to our government by April 7, 2017.
I look forward to reviewing this report once it is submitted, and I am committed to working with all of my York Region colleagues to ensure that our students and parents have complete confidence in our public education system.” – Steven Del Duca, MPP for Vaughan
